“SIMPLICITY”
Everything that exists or has ever existed can be deconstructed and represented with simple shapes. I spent the better part of last year working on a very complex and detailed oriented project, during the planning phase, (sketching) i begun to realise that I was only using three basic shapes, the square, the circle and the triangle to draft what I had in mind. I was always fascinated with the basic shapes and somehow that manifested itself to what you see before you. I don't know if I did it because my brain needed to reboot from excess detailed work, I don’t know if somehow the shapes got burned into my subconscious but when I begun to plan my next project I could only see triangles and circles. After a lot of experimentation i managed to incorporate both these shapes in one. In Its initial form is always a triangle. That is how you wear it, that is how you save it or display it. But when it is time to put it on you have to change its shape to a circle. That’s the only way it will fit your hand or Neck. Even in these mundane experiences our brain’s 100 Billion neurons are firing at unbelievable speeds. My idea was to isolate some of these processes of the human brain. I noticed the material the Dentist used on me that day to close the hole on my tooth, created mostly by soft drinks and gummy bears. I thought that I would google it later; And google it I did. I found out about composite fillings that day. I used Oxidised Silver (black) as a base and after some experimentation with polymers I ended up with with the Data collection. “SOLITUDE”
These past couple of years have been hard on most of us. To people who are more outdoorsy it was like a never ending nightmare. I like to spend time outside of the confines of my house. I usually go on long hikes to find mushrooms, I roam the forests, I go fishing on my boat. After a few months of online shopping, house renovating, mask making, indoor hobby mastering, hygiene pursuing, pilates starting, binge watching, gaming, pilates quitting, conspiracy theorizing and self hair cutting at the risk of sounding overly dramatic, I felt like I was rattling in my own coffin. All that was left to me was my own isolation, my own staring of the Abyss. This is a collection that came as a direct result of these feelings, all these ideas trapped in boxes isolated from the world. The straps for these pieces were created using real leather by my wife Victoria and they are one of the indoor hobby masterings I mentioned before. The idea is for people to wear these pieces with pride, to remember we are not creatures that can live without interacting with our tribe. That we need our people, whether they are friends, or family close to us. They are pieces celebrating our global Reunion. Materials: stainless steel, metal paint, silver 925, leather |
